In a recent Guitar World article and another Premier Guitar article, Don Felder (former Eagles guitarist and current solo artist) went through the gear that he currently uses. Of particular note, Felder advocates using a minimal number of effects in order to maintain a high degree of signal integrity. The three pedals he does use are:
Boss DD-3 Digital Delay Pedal
Boss CH-1 Super Chorus
Fulltone OCD Overdrive
Voodoo Lab Power Supply
Boss TU-3 Pedal Tuner
Of course, Felder has some killer guitars along with some vintage amps to play them through. Not only that, but as many musicians will tell you, much of a guitarist’s tone comes from the player’s fingers. So, when you’re trying to recreate the tone of a guitarist whose nickname is “Fingers,” you’re likely in for a bit of a challenge.
Nonetheless, if you’re looking for some input on possible pedals to buy, this is a pretty good endorsement.
Below is a video where Don talks about the guitars and pedals he uses for his live shows. I’ve set the time to start at the position where starts talking about his pedal board. You can reset the time if you’re interested in hearing about Don’s guitars.
Of particular note, Felder has some really nice things to say about the Fulltone OCD Overdrive Pedal.
“I love these OCD pedals. They’re a great overdrive pedal that seem to really have a nice full sustain, yet, when you turn the volume down on the guitar, it doesn’t get mushy. I just gets softer, which is perfect. I use it on every pedal rig I’ve got. I love the thing. Fulltone [the manufacturer] is fabulous.” - Don Felder.
